Summer school
BALEARIC children between eight and nine years of age are perfectly bilingual.
A study conducted in May by the Education Department among primary students attending 302 Balearic schools shows that children aged eight to nine speak both Catalan and Spanish fluently. Data also indicates that their grades tend to be a little bit lower in English and Mathematics.
To evaluate the children’s abilities, researchers used a one to 100 scale. On average, the students scored 71.7 in Catalan and 71.3 in Spanish, which stands in contrast to the 62.2 and 65.9 scores they obtained in English and mathematics respectively.
