SPANISH Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy paid a flying visit to Benidorm on his campaign trail for re-election.
He was accompanied by President of the Generalitat Valenciana regional government Alberto Fabra, José Ciscar of the Alicante Provincial Government and Toni Perez, the PP candidate for mayor in Benidorm, in addition to an entourage of assistants and representatives of the press.
The weather stayed fine on Saturday for Rajoy’s visit, so the group walked through the streets of the Old Town, passing the time of day with the locals before continuing to the Mirador, escorted by the National Police.
They were greeted by well-wishers and also by protestors unhappy at the current policies of Rajoy’s PP government. Some bystanders were heard shouting, “Do you have an envelope!” in reference to the ongoing trials of alleged bribery concerning PP politicians.
Before his departure Prime Minister Rajoy greeted the PP nominees for Benidorm.
