THE Malaga Animal and Plant Protection Society has sent out a plea for help to feed the 900 dogs currently housed at the charity’s La Virreina refuge.Donations of dog food will be gratefully received at the Carrefour in Malaga City’s La Rosaleda shopping centre this Saturday, May 23, from 10am to 10pm.Charity leader, Carmen Manzano said she was confident people would help out as they have done in the past, when the refuge has needed to send out an SOS and explained that all donations will be gratefully accepted as the refuge, which was built for 300 abandoned animals, is currently caring for more than three times that amount, and is struggling to keep up.“The dogs and cats need to be strong to avoid falling ill, and they need feeding to stay strong,” Manzano said. The refuge is also hosting an Animal Charity fundraising day on Sunday May 31.The charity leader said children’s activities, stands selling clothes, jewellery and crafts and a vegetarian paella are just some of the things planned for the day.“It’s a chance to raise awareness and allow people to see how the animals are cared for and what the charities in the province do,” Manzano explained.
