OF THE eight main projects announced by former Alicante Mayor Miguel Valor, three have been cancelled and one postponed by the new council team. Those cancelled, for the time being at least, are a new telecommunications tower at San Fernando Castle, a bike path at Urbanova and surfacing and development work on Calle San Pedro and surrounding streets in the historical centre, budgeted at approximately €2.5 million.Municipal sources reported that the three projects will require changes and have therefore been shelved for the time being, and that a €2.2 million project to renew the Avenida de Niza seafront promenade at San Juan beach will be also be put off until after the summer to avoid disturbing tourists.Meanwhile four of the projects the former mayor had announced, with an approximate cost of €6 million, are either underway already or due to start within days. The work includes renovating the old Chamber of Commerce building and the old bus station, repairing the town hall roof and resurfacing Plaza del Puente.
