A PROJECT to turn a historical building in Marbella’s old town into a welcome centre for tourists is being considered by the council.Carola Herrero, head of Marbella old town business association, has proposed that the Hospital de la Misericordia housing the centre would follow the style of similar successful welcome centres in other European cities, giving visitors with a starting point to discover the historical centre and providing information and services. The idea was put forward by the local business association at a meeting with Industry and Public Streets councillor Javier Porcuna and Commerce councillor Ana Gonzalez, who intend to give it serious consideration. The councillors also agreed to seek European funding to carry out projects in the area, which Porcuna said: “is an emblematic area of southern Europe with unique heritage which needs to be preserved and has great tourist and historical potential.”
