A DRILL to practice a rescue operation was performed by the lifeguard team of Almuñecar at the Velilla breakwater.Authorities simulated a scenario where a woman had fallen from the breakwater, suffering broken bones. The sound of sirens of emergency vehicles alerted beach-goers, who wear surprised until they realised it was all a drill. With the help of a special stretcher, the woman was ‘retrieved’ from the water and taken to hospital after her leg was immobilised. The operation was coordinated and controlled by municipal safety and beach experts, Juan Jose Martinez and Jesus Ruiz, as well as Beach and Tourism Councillors, Luis Aragon and Rafael Caballero.“This is a very important operation to keep our team as ready as possible and also get used to the fast reaction times and attention necessary to give a good service,” said the coordinators.
