CALPE’S Councillor for Protection and Planning Ana Sala and a number of environmental representatives are to meet in Calpe this week to discuss a safe and viable solution to restoring safety to the Penyal d’Ifach, which closed at the beginning of the summer. The popular walk-through beauty spot was closed following a decree from the ministry on advice from safety personnel. The stone floor of the tunnel leading to the spectacular lookout point from the Ifach had become polished with use and unsafe underfoot. The government team ran into considerable criticism for the closure of the town’s most popular tourist attraction at the start of the summer. The council has maintained a constant communication with the Department of the Directorate-General to find a solution to safety issues at the Ifach and it is hoped that a solution will be proposed following this week’s meetings.
