PARTYGOERS and tourists alike will be able to get a break from the heat on Malaga city’s Calle Marques de Larios and the Plaza de la Constitucion thanks to an agreement to leave awnings up for longer.
The City Hall has reached an agreement with San Miguel beer company, which will be spending about €500,000 on activities and facilities for Malaga fair (August 15-22), one of the most important in Andalucia.
The agreement involves installation of awnings to provide shade on the busy street and square, which will this year remain in place until mid-September and will be put in place again each year until 2018.
Work to install the awnings, which have a new design this year, will be complete by Wednesday 12, the council has explained, and will this year be placed higher up by popular demand.
San Miguel, which has been sponsoring the Malaga Fair for seven years and will have its own official caseta (tent) at the fairground, will also be organizing various events and activities based on beer culture including the San Miguel Bus Experience, a bus which will be parked about the city until August 23 providing visitors with an insight into the brand’s history in the province.
The brand has a long history in Malaga and has always helped create employment and maintain local traditions, Mayor Francisco de la Torre explained.
