PALMA CENTRE: Business owners have been charged with crimes of social security fraud.
POLICE arrested at least 11 people on Monday (December 14), mainly in restaurants in the centre of Palma, for labour exploitation. The business owners were charged with crimes of social security fraud, abuse of worker’s rights and public health and safety issues.
The operation was coordinated with inspectors from the Work and Health Department and the Unit Against Illegal Immigration Networks and Documentary Fraud (UCRIIF), a body of the National Police.
Throughout the day, agents and inspectors conducted 15 administrative inspections in various establishments in Palma and also carried out five searches.
The Association of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants of Mallorca (Restauración Mallorca) spoke out on Tuesday strongly condemning the abuses. President of the association, Alfonso Robledo, stressed that
