EXEMPT: People with electric cars will not have to pay.

ELECTRIC cars are now exempt from blue zone fees in Malaga in a regulatory move that came into effect on January.

With the exception of parking in recognised busy zones that have a maximum parking limit of 30 minutes, electric cars will be given more freedom of movement in order to spearhead the ‘Zem2all’ project that hopes to convert Malaga into an electric transportation hotspot.

Blue zone parking spaces are designed to ease congestion and are in operation during the commercial peaks of 9am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm on Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.

Residents with resident cards, and those with reduced mobility, are entitled to advantageous prices on the 2,894 spaces, with discounts up to 98 per cent.
