Star-studded: ‘The English Gypsy’ Francesca performing in Mojacar.
A British-born Flamenco dancer is fast becoming a local celebrity, as venues hosting her events sell out within hours of advertising.
Francesca Girone, described by a local Spanish newspaper as ‘La Gitana Inglesa’ (The English Gypsy) began Flamenco lessons when she first moved to Spain a number of years ago, saying that it helped her integrate into Spanish life.
Ms Girone, along with her accompanying musicians and singers, has taken part in a number of Flamenco extravaganzas throughout Mojacar, including a recent star-studded gala at the multi-use centre in Mojacar Pueblo.
More than 260 people enjoyed the sold-out event, which showcased the talents of dancers from across Andalucia, together with Mojacar’s very own English gypsy.
Another event is planned for May and information is due to be released in the coming weeks.
Ms Girone’s regular fellow artists are stars in their own right, hailing from the La Chanca district in Almeria they include Edu Garcia on vocals, Edu – El Sosio on guitar, Rafa – El Falito on percussion and fellow dancer, Luis Santiago – El Moreno.
In order to pave the way for people interested in learning more about the dance, Ms Girone has set up a Facebook page.
She hopes the page will help people enjoy the passion of Flamenco and get involved themselves. Visit the Facebook page, Facebook forum for English speakers.
