RONDA’S TAJO: Has featured on thousands of postcards.
RONDA’S Tajo (or chasm) is to be declared a Natural Monument, hopefully by the beginning of next year, the Junta de Andalucia regional government has announced.
The 100 metre deep, 500 metre long chasm cut into the hill by the Rio Guadalevin, a landmark which features on thousands of postcards and is probably one of the most instantly recognisable spots in Andalucia, will figure on a decree naming five new natural monuments in the region.
Environmental delegate Jose Fiscal, accompanied by Ronda Mayor Teresa Valdenebro, explained that a draft decree is already being drawn up and should be ready for approval early in 2017.
