Theresa May and the Queen
BRITISH media are reporting that the Queen was left ‘disappointed’ by Theresa May after the prime minister kept mum on her government’s Brexit plans during a private audience at Balmoral.
The Times claims a high level source told the paper that May stuck to her ‘Brexit means Brexit’ media soundbite when pressed for more details by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
The conversation is said to have taken place during May’s September trip to the Queen’s Scottish retreat, her first period of extended time with the monarch since becoming prime minister.
Spokesmen from both Buckingham Palace and Downing Street have said that they do not comment on private conversations between the Queen and prime ministers. Her Majesty is now dealing with her 13th prime minister since her rule began in 1952.
If the leak is confirmed to have come from the Palace it doesn’t bode well for May. She is under increasing pressure to make clear just what ‘Brexit means Brexit’ actually means, beyond saying that it will be a ‘red, white and blue Brexit’.
