Snow arrived in many parts of Spain last week, including along the coastal areas of the Costa Blanca, an event not seen in a generation. Whilst it may have been a brief fluttering, many have turned their thoughts to a wintry wonderland and are dusting off the skies in search of more of the white stuff.
But before you head to the Sierra Nevada, or further afield, it is important to remember some basic health checks.
Skiing can be a demanding sport so always try to warm up before hitting the slopes to prevent injuries such as pulling muscles and strains. Ten minutes of squatting and stretching after skiing will also help prevent problems.
For those who do little exercise, skiing can be a shock on the system as to how physical it can be so try and prepare at home a little before heading off. Even simple walking up and down stairs will help prepare the leg muscles.
The snow reflects 80 per cent of solar radiation so whilst you may be wrapped up, don’t forget to wear a high sun protection factor on the face and lip balm.
