Residents call for halt to industrial projects in Marina Alta

PETITION TO PROTECT: The beautiful landscape of Vall de Polop.

RESIDENTS in the Marina Alta Region have launched a petition to protect their environment from industrial projects.

The neighbourhood association of Vall de Polop, Barxell and Baradello are calling for the new General Structural Plan (formerly PGOU) of Alcoy to protect the area and avoid several proposals involving new industrial estates and a landfill site.

The group has started a campaign to collect signatures on the popular change.org internet site with around 2,000 names already registered.

Extensive documentation was presented to the General Structural Plan by the association, some 500 pages, detailing how to preserve the Vall de Polop in its totality and specifically how new constructions would allegedly destroy the rich natural, cultural and traditional heritage on which the parklands Mariola and the Font Roja depend.

The association has said it will continue to campaign for proper protection until the council confirm that the urban status requests are met and resolved.

Why doesn’t the piece include a link to the petition change.org web page?
