TREASURE TROVE: Police seized a huge haul of stolen items. Credit: Guardia Civil
POLICE in Mallorca arrested a Chilean man on a flight bound for London who had allegedly committed a series of burglaries on the island before trying to flee to Britain. The suspect had already seated himself in the plane when Guardia Civil officers came aboard on Wednesday afternoon and led him away. Five alleged accomplices were also held at an apartment in Palma, where the group was staying. An investigation has led detectives to believe that the gang is responsible for nearly 40 break-ins, stealing luxury watches, jewellery, electronic equipment and cameras worth almost €112,000. The crimes reportedly took place over a short period in towns including Marratxi and areas like El Toro, a neighbourhood in Calvia.
