A 31 YEAR OLD British man who has yet to be named has died after falling off a pedalo on the Costa Dorada.
Police and paramedics promptly arrived at the scene on Regueral beach, just south of Barcelona in Cambrils. Three ambulances were sent along with five patrol vehicles and members of the local police force. Paramedics performed CPR but the man was pronounced dead around 6pm on Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses say that there were no adverse weather conditions, the warning flags were green all day and there were lifeguards on duty. Despite these favourable conditions, according to local media reports the man was dragged out to sea after falling in the water and subsequently struggling to swim.
Pedalos are easily available for hire on lots of beaches in the area and are usually considered safe.
Last month a five-year-old Georgian girl was swept out to sea just 15 kilometres north of Cambrils in La Pineda after a strong wind blew the inflatable she was on 200 metres from the shoreline.
So far no investigation into Sunday’s incident has been announced.
