Alerts: orange alert for high temperatures in parts of Valencia for Sunday
THE hot weather is about to return to parts of Spain, with areas of Valencia set for an orange alert for temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius from noon on Sunday.
Once again hot dry air from the Sahara will bring scorching temperatures to inland areas. While Alicante and the coast will escape the worst of the heat it will still reach a sizzling 36 degrees in the shade.
Forecasters expect the hottest temperatures to be between noon and 7pm on Sunday.
Authorities advise people to avoid exercise during those hours and to drink a lot of water even if not thirsty.
For those who want to cool down with a dip in the sea, water temperatures are expected to be a balmy 24 to 25 degrees on the Valencia coast.
Tomorrow (Saturday) large parts of the country will be overcast. Particularly in Northern Spain, with the possibility of storms and hail in parts of northern Valencia.
Temperatures will begin to rise on the Mediterranean coasts and the Balearic Islands to between 36 and 38 degrees away from the sea.
