Mass brawl in Valencian village Credit: Google Maps
In the early hour of Tuesday (July 23) approximately 100 people were involved in a mass brawl during the fiestas in the Valencian village of Albal. Twelve local police forces from Albal and the surrounding villages were deployed to manage the crowds with the help of the Guardia Civil and some private security firms. The intervention of the police seemed to only incite more violence with the crowd throwing stones at the officers which was the reason for calling in additional support. The fight broke out in La Balaguera Park and resulted in several injuries. Following the brawl, the Mayor of Albal, Ramón Marí, made the decision to cancel the mobile discos that were scheduled for Wednesday and tomorrow (Saturday) and hired more private security for the remainder of the fiesta to ensure the safety of the crowd.
