Firefighters, the Civil Guard and Ibanat were called at around 7 a.m on Sunday morning to extinguish a fire that was believed to be started intentionally in the Son Quint area in Esporles.
According to the Ibanat, a plane, a helicopter, 2 pumps, 18 firefighters, 2 trucks, a foreman, a technician and two pick up trucks are working together to suffocate the flames and bring the blaze under control/.
Agents from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) and environmental technicians are considering the possibility that the fire was intentional which is looking highly likely. The suspicions are based on the fact that they have detected three different areas where the fire started.
This is the third fire in this same place in one week, the other two previous ones were extinguished very quickly which prevented the fire from spreading in a wooded area.
The firefighting teams brought the fire under control quickly and worked for several hours to make sure that it was completely extinguished.
SEPRONA agents are working with the police and have opened an investigation to try to locate the alleged perpetrator of the fires.
