PLANS for a new Town Hall building in Mojacar are moving along.
Diputacion de Almeria President Javier A. Garcia has presented Mojacar Mayor Mayor Rosa Maria Cano with the provincial administration’s Municipality Assistance Area’s project for the construction of a four-storey building
One floor will serve as a new Local Police station.
The Diputacion explained that given the size of the project it had been decided to divide it into two phases. The first phase was carried out between 2016 and 2017 when a building dating back to the 1970s was demolished to make way for the future Town Hall and a structure put in its place, the upper part of which is the village’s main plaza lookout point.
The project recently presented to the Mojacar Mayor outlines the works which will be carried out on the structure’s exterior and interior.
It will have four entrances. The main one will be from Calle Glorieta, the main door for the Local Police will be in Avenida de Paris. There will be another entrance in the same road, and fourth from the Plaza Mirador with access via a lift with three glass sides, which will connect with all floors.
There will also be a meeting room, which will be used for council plenary sessions and cultural events and exhibition.
The Mojacar Mayor said the Diputacion project document represented an important saving for the local council.
New council facilities are necessary due to the growth the municipality has experienced in recent years and due to the age of the current Town Hall, the Mayor maintained.
The new building meets all the needs so that services can be provided in each of the council departments”, she said.
The budget for the new building is just over €2.1 million. Construction is expected to take 12 months.
