THE mayor of Ítrabo will face a private prosecution in the hands of far right political party, Vox over the illegal sewerage disposal.
Antonio Jesus Carrascosa Valverde, mayor of Itrabo, along with six other mayors in the region are all under investigation for their apparent mishandling of sewerage disposal back in 2014.
They all stand accused of charges of environmental offences from discharging untreated sewerage into the water supply.
A spokesman for Vox Granada has explained that whilst individual entities such as the villages in question do not have authoritative powers to control the treatment of the water supply, the mancomunidades that their joint governments form do, therefore the ex-Chairmen of the Mancomunidad José García Fuentes and Sergio García Alabarce must provide explanations as to why the incident occurred.
Current Chairwoman María José Sánchez and vice chairwoman María Eugenia Rufino are also to be held accountable to explain “their double standards concerning the sewerage appearing in Salobrena”
The case dates back to 2014 when untreated waste leaked into water courses in the area, contaminating the water. An investigation took place before an official complaint was logged in January 2018.
