POLICIA LOCAL officers in Calpe warned that the Costa Blanca resort’s municipal car pound is full to overflowing. The union representing some of the officers blamed the local government’s failure to deal with the formalities that would allow the accumulated cars to be auctioned. Owing to lack of space, the union officials also maintained that officers have been ordered not to remove abandoned vehicles from Calpe’s streets. This led to “surreal situations”, the union said when police were alerted by a member of the public about an abandoned car and were obliged to explain that they could not remove it.
