WORK began in Calpe on covering the court where the Valencian ballgame Pelota is played. Once covered, games can continue during bad weather and the alley-shaped court, built in 2006, will get more use, the town hall’s Sports department said. Installing the translucent polycarbonate panels, installing a suspended sliding door and new lighting is expected to take a month to complete and the €115,000 cost has been subsidised by the Diputacion provincial council. The economical LED lighting can also be turned on in separate phases bringing further savings, Sports department sources said. A rocodromo climbing wall was recently added to the Pelota court so that young people could start to learn the principles of rock climbing.
