Spain Extends Restrictions on Arrivals from the UK for Fifth Time.

THE Spanish government announced another travel ban extension for travellers from the UK – moving it from March 2 until at least March 16. An extension of restrictions also covers Brazil and South Africa – with passengers on flights from Brazil and the Republic of South Africa having to undergo a 10-day quarantine in Spain.

Following a meeting of Spain’s cabinet on February 23 the Health Minister Carolina Darias told a news conference it was to extend entry restrictions for travellers for another two weeks.

Darias’ announcement means that direct flights and passenger ships between the United Kingdom and Spanish airports and ports continue to be banned. Flights from any airport located in the United Kingdom to any airport located in Spain, with or without intermediate stops, may only be carried out in the case of aircraft that carry exclusively Spanish or Andorran nationals, or residents in Spain or Andorra. However, a negative PCR test or similar carried out within 72 hours prior to arrival is also required.

This is the fifth time that Spain has extended its restrictions on arrivals from Britain.

“We’re looking to contain infections associated with the Covid variants as far as possible,” said Spanish government spokesperson María Jesús Montero.

The agreement establishes, however, some exceptions to these limitations, and enables the Ministry of Health to lift the planned limitation, occasionally authorising aircraft flights for justified reasons.
