UPDATE: Gatwick Airport reopens after investigations  

Operations at Gatwick Airport in London were suspended after a suspected drone was spotted in the air space.

The Gatwick Airport in London has started operations again after a suspected drone in the air space resulted in suspending departures and arrivals.  

The incident happened at around 1.45 pm, after a ‘potential drone’ was spotted, and the airport has since been opened for operation. 

A statement by a Gatwick Airport spokesperson said, cited by Metro said, “Passenger safety is the airport’s absolute priority and – following established procedures – operations at London Gatwick were suspended temporarily at 1.44 pm, while investigations into the sighting of a suspected drone close to the airfield took place.”

“These investigations have now been completed and the airfield reopened at 2.35 pm”, it said.

The statement added, “12 inbound aircraft were diverted to other airports during the investigation, however, we expect many of these to return to London Gatwick today.”

Planes are being diverted from Gatwick Airport after reports of drones in the airspace

Flight scheduled to land at Gatwick Airport have been diverted after reports of drones being flown in the airspace.  

According to the Metro on Sunday, May 14, all the runways at the airport have been closed.  

Reports also state that departures and arrivals have been cancelled, and flights are being diverted to other airports.  

One of the easyJet flights scheduled to land in Gatwick also has reportedly been sent to Stansted.
