FOR many, the dream of owning a home with a castle view home sounds too good to be true. However, in the heart of medieval Alicante, the dream isn’t a fairy tale, and it is quite possible without breaking the bank.
According to a recent report, Villena, a picturesque town situated 58 kilometres from Alicante’s capital and near the borders of Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia, offers some of the most affordable housing options in Spain.
As of December 2023, this town, renowned for its historical appeal and two castles, has an average property price of just €664 per square metre, in stark contrast to the national average of around €2,000 per square metre.
Despite a general surge in Spanish property prices, Villena remains an exception. Data from Idealista highlights the town’s affordability, especially when compared to pricier locales such as Moraira, Javea, and Benissa, where prices per square metre soar to €3,668, €3,076, and €3,050 respectively.
In Villena, one can find 100 square metre houses for sale under €33,000, a rare find in today’s Spanish property market.
Villena isn’t the only town in Alicante offering budget-friendly housing. Several other towns boast prices well below the province’s average of €2,055 per square metre according to recent statistics.
This remarkable affordability in Alicante’s real estate market offers a unique opportunity for those seeking a home in Spain without the hefty price tag.
