Teulada City Council launched a campaign to raise awareness amongst landowners to ensure the cleanliness of their plots, aiming to reduce the risk of fires.

With the rise in temperatures and fires across the Valencian Community, including the fire of Tarbena which recently covered more than 800 hectares, Teulada City Council implemented a safety measure, developed by the Environment Department.

The campaign, “Clean plots, safe plots” targets local landowners, encouraging them to take care of their plots, eliminating bushes, weeds and waste to reduce the threat of forest fires.

The Council will carry out inspections of the poorly maintained plots located in risk areas and notify the owners of the cleaning measures they’ll need to take. In the case of not complying, sanctions will be imposed, as the waste in these plots is highly combustible and falls under the risk of fire, especially in such high temperatures.

Teualada’s Councilor for the Environment, Pilar Vidal urged citizens to collaborate in order to ensure municipal safety: “It is essential that we are all aware of our responsibility in protecting the environment. The proper maintenance of the vegetation on the plots is one of the most important measures we can take to avoid these fires.”

Vidal highlighted the upcoming summer: “Cleaning the plots is a simple task that can avoid major disasters. With the arrival of good weather, the risk of forest fires increases, so it is crucial to take preventive measures and for everyone to collaborate.”
