A journalist from Ondara has been awarded one of Mallorca’s most respected literary honours, marking a significant moment for contemporary Valencian writing.
Jovi Lozano-Seser has received the prestigious Premi Antoni Vidal Ferrando at the 2026 Premis Santanyí, recognising his latest literary work and contribution to narrative fiction. The award, presented annually in Mallorca, celebrates outstanding writing in Catalan and includes both publication and a cash prize.
The prize itself was established by the Santanyí town council to honour Antoni Vidal Ferrando, one of the most important contemporary voices in Catalan literature, whose work spans poetry, novels and essays and has been translated into multiple languages.
Recognition for a regional voice
Lozano-Seser, a well-known cultural journalist and writer from the Marina Alta, has built a reputation for his literary work rooted in the identity, landscapes and social nuances of the Valencian region. His latest novel, which secured the award, stood out among entries for its narrative depth and distinctive voice.
The Premi Antoni Vidal Ferrando is open to works across narrative forms, including novels, short stories and literary essays, reinforcing its position as a key platform for emerging and established writers working in Catalan.
Winning the prize places Lozano-Seser alongside previous recipients whose works have gone on to gain wider recognition, further strengthening cultural ties between the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain’s literary scene.
A boost for Costa Blanca literature
The recognition also highlights the growing literary output emerging from the Costa Blanca, particularly the Marina Alta area, which continues to inspire writers through its unique blend of tradition, tourism and local identity.
For Lozano-Seser, the award not only marks a career milestone but also brings renewed attention to storytelling rooted in place – a theme that resonates strongly with readers both locally and beyond.
As literary prizes across Spain continue to spotlight regional voices, this latest win underscores the importance of preserving and promoting Catalan-language literature in a modern context.
