Artisan producers from every corner of the Malaga province are descending upon Nerja this weekend to share the rich culinary heritage of the Axarquia and surrounding areas through the Sabor a Malaga fair. This celebrated regional fair serves as a vital platform for over thirty local businesses, ranging from family-run farms to traditional bakeries. Visitors can expect an immersive journey through the authentic tastes of Southern Spain, promoting the province’s standing as an ever-more-popular gastronomic destination. Every stall tells a story of generations dedicated to the soil, offering a rare opportunity to meet the faces behind the labels, labels that are making their names in restaurants around the world.
Exquisite flavours and local produce
Guests will find themselves surrounded by stalls laden with “liquid gold” extra virgin olive oils, award-winning goat cheeses, and organic honey. Shelves will groan under the weight of Axarquia raisins, Almogia almonds, and artisan breads baked using ancient techniques. These gatherings are essential for the local economy, as they encourage a direct connection between those who cultivate the land and the families who enjoy the harvests. Supporting these (what they call) “KM 0” products makes sure of the sustainability of traditional farming methods that have defined this landscape for centuries. By choosing to buy directly from the source, shoppers can contribute to a circular economy that protects the rural landscape from industrial overreach.
Live entertainment and shared traditions
Cooking demonstrations led by renowned chefs form an important part of the fair, teaching onlookers the secrets of chilled ajoblanco or traditional meat stews. Expert-led workshops will offer guided tastings of wines with the Malaga and Sierras de Malaga designation of origin, while live folk music will give a rhythmic backdrop to the festivities. Such events create a profound sense of community, bringing together residents and expats over shared plates and stories. It is a celebration of identity, where the simple act of breaking bread becomes a tribute to the hard work of Malaga’s producers. Families often spend the entire afternoon exploring the various stages, enjoying the festive atmosphere that permeates the town’s historic centre.
