As we approach the end of the first week of June, the weekend is set to turn markedly warm, setting us up for the start of the summer ahead. Rising temperatures are expected across much of the south and interior, while stable Mediterranean conditions will dominate the east coast, and a cooler, wetter pattern will persist in the far north.
Friday, June 5: widespread sunshine with early heat building
Friday begins with a clear split between regions.
Across western Andalucía, inland cities such as Sevilla, Córdoba and Jaén see temperatures climb quickly into the low 30s, marking one of the first sustained hot spells of the season. Skies remain largely cloudless, with strong sunshine dominating most of the day.
On the southern coastline its perfect sailing/beach weather as conditions are bright and dry but slightly less intense especially around Malaga and Marbella, with sea breezes keeping temperatures closer to 28–30ºC. Cádiz and the Costa de la Luz follow a similar pattern, with steady sunshine and comfortable coastal winds.
Further east along the Mediterranean, the Costa Blanca and Murcia region enjoy another stable early summer day. Alicante, Torrevieja and surrounding areas sit in the upper 20s to low 30s inland, with clear skies and dry air throughout. In central Spain, Madrid experiences warm, settled conditions with highs near 29ºC and uninterrupted sunshine. By contrast, the far north of Spain however, tells a different story, for those of you looking to avoid the upcoming heat, you will want to be here. Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria will remain under Atlantic influence, bringing cloud cover and periods of rain, while temperatures stay noticeably lower than the rest of the country.
Saturday, June 6: heat intensifies inland, brief instability in places
Temperatures rise further across inland areas.
In Andalucía’s interior, the heat becomes more pronounced, marking a good moment to avoid any unnecessary trips, with Córdoba, Sevilla and surrounding provinces pushing into the mid-30s. Coastal resorts remain hot but manageable thanks to onshore breezes. Along the eastern seaboard, conditions remain largely unchanged. The Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida continue with sunshine and dry air, although inland Murcia begins to feel more humid during midday onwards so it is advisable to remain well hydrated.
In the Costa Brava and inland Cataluña, conditions become slightly more variable. Girona and nearby areas may see cloud build-up and isolated showers, although most coastal resorts remain dry. Madrid sees a more mixed day, with warmth continuing but some afternoon cloud and a slight risk of brief showers developing. The north of Spain still the place to be for those heat intolerants as it remains under persistent Atlantic influence, with further rain affecting Galicia and parts of the Cantabrian coast.
Sunday, June 7: peak early summer heat returns
According to the AEMET we will end the weekend with high pressure strengthening again across most of Spain.
In southern inland Andalucía, temperatures peak for the weekend, with widespread mid-30s expected in the Guadalquivir Valley. Coastal areas remain hot but slightly moderated by sea breezes. Along the Mediterranean coast, including Valencia and Murcia, conditions are fully settled again, with sunshine and temperatures around 30–32ºC inland.
Barcelona and the Costa Brava return to brighter skies after Saturday’s brief instability, with comfortable upper-20s temperatures and dry conditions. Madrid also reaches its highest point of the weekend at around 30–31ºC under clear skies. Only the far north-west and northern fringe continues with a different pattern, as Galicia and parts of the Basque Country see lingering cloud and occasional rain.
Rising temperature reminders
It’s import to remember that as temperatures continue to rise into the weekend, simple heat safety measures become increasingly important. Residents and visitors are advised to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between midday and 05:00pm, and seek shade where possible during the hottest part of the day.
Older adults, young children and those with existing health conditions should take extra care during peak heat periods.
