Emergency crews confirmed a woman’s death early Monday, July 6 in the morning after a truck struck her on the A-7 motorway near Mijas,  in yet another fatal incident on this notoriously dangerous stretch of Costa del Sol road.

What happened on the A-7 in Mijas

Witnesses alerted Spain’s 112 emergency service at around 5.20am on Monday, July 6, reporting that a woman had been hit by a lorry at kilometre 1,027 of the A-7, heading towards Marbella. Paramedics from the 061 health emergency service rushed to the scene along with Guardia Civil traffic officers, but could only confirm her death upon arrival. No details regarding her identity, age or nationality have been released, and investigators have yet to disclose how the collision occurred.

A worrying pattern on this stretch of road

Monday’s tragedy adds to a truly grim run of accidents along this same section of motorway. Back in April, a man was struck and killed by a vehicle at kilometre 1,028 near Mijas, in the direction of Fuengirola, on what was dubbed a “dark Easter Monday” after a second fatal crash struck Malaga city on the same night.

May brought further heartbreak when a 54-year-old motorcyclist died in a late-night crash on the A-7 in Mijas, having been discovered lying in the road at around 10.45pm. Guardia Civil officers were unable to save him despite a swift response.

Separately, a motorcyclist died in the early hours while exiting the A-7 near Mijas at kilometre 1,024, scarily proving how this junction-heavy corridor continues to claim lives.

Investigations continue

Guardia Civil has opened an inquiry into this mornings fatal collision, though authorities have released few details so far. Road safety campaigners have repeatedly flagged the A-7 through Mijas as a high-risk zone, citing heavy traffic volumes, poor lighting in places, and pedestrian access points along a route built around for fast-moving vehicles.

Further updates are expected once investigators establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
