Estepona is inviting mural artists to help transform the town’s Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, with seven commissions on offer and €10,000 in prize money up for grabs.

The town hall has launched a national competition for artworks to decorate interior spaces at the cultural centre. Local and visiting artists are being encouraged to put forward their own creative ideas for consideration before the November 20 deadline.

Seven murals are planned, each linked to an activity or discipline represented at the centre. The themes are chess, dance, theatre, painting, literature, the library and music. Each proposal must be original, reflect its allocated subject and be designed to suit the space.

Art becomes part of Estepona’s identity

The competition is open to visual artists, mural painters, art students and groups aged over 18. Applicants can submit designs for one or several categories, although an individual artist or collective can only win one prize.

There is €10,000 in total prize money. The dance and music categories each carry €1,650, while painting and the library theme offer €1,200 apiece. The chess, theatre and literature categories each have a €900 prize. The amounts are gross and must cover the design and execution of the mural.

Entries will be assessed by a jury, which will consider artistic quality, originality, suitability for the location, technical feasibility and how well each design reflects its theme.

Artists must submit a portfolio together with a dossier for each mural entered. This must include a colour sketch, a photomontage showing the work in its intended location, a statement explaining the concept and details of the techniques and materials to be used.

Applications must be registered with Estepona Town Hall by 10am on Friday, November 20, 2026. The winning murals are scheduled to be completed between December 14 and 18.

Competition rules, theme descriptions and technical details of the seven spaces are available through the Estepona Town Hall announcement.
