Mario Fiorentini, an Italian secret agent who fought against fascism during WWII has died aged 103, as reported on Tuesday, August 9.

The death of Italian secret agent and anti-fascist partisan Mario Fiorentini was announced by the presidency of Anpi, the National Association of Italian Partisans:

“With great sorrow we inform that a great man, a great friend, a great example has left us. Mario Fiorentini, Italy’s most decorated partisan, the great mathematician, died tonight.”

“He commanded the Gruppo di Azione Patriottica ‘Antonio Gramsci’ (Antonio Gramsci Patriotic Action Group), operating in the centre of Rome, which routed three enemy battalions during the nine months of the Nazi occupation of the capital.”

Born on November 7, 1918, Mario Fiorentini was an Italian partisan, secret agent and mathematician who played a key role in the anti-fascist movement in Italy during the WWII period.

The news of the death of Italian secret agent Mario Fiorentini follows reports of the death of Japanese voice actor Hiroshi Otake, who died following acute heart failure on August 1, aged 90, as reported on Tuesday, August 9.
