Costa Blanca´s Blue Economy

A recent study listed the municipalities within the Alicante province with the most potential for a Blue Economy; Altea, Calpe and Denia were among the top.

Santa Pola, Alicante, Altea, Calpe and Denia were declared the towns with the most effective systems for the Blue Economy, gaining a stable income from the marine sector. 

The Digital Intelligence Centre of the Alicante Province developed an Observatory of the Blue Economy to monitor which towns are the most successful at sustainably and consistently benefiting from and contributing to the marine environment.  The Observatory highlighted the towns with the most innovative training, research and infrastructure.

Altea was listed for its living marine resources and coastal tourism, as well as being listed in National Geographic as the most attractive town in the Valencian Community. Altea also has nine nautical schools, three diving schools, and an aquaculture culture.

Calpe´s two nautical schools, five diving centres and 18 vessels with a fish landed of 819.1 tons were highlighted as the marine achievements in the Alicante Province.

Denia was mentioned for its impressive sector of shipbuilding, repair and maritime transport, as well as its aquaculture company, 11 natural schools and six quality diving centres.
