Torremolinos’ Clarence Jazz Club welcomes the sounds of the Nicole Johanntgen Trio for a live performance on Friday, May 1 as part of the Labrinth II release tour.

Nicole Johanntgen is an incredibly talented saxophonist, composer, and workshop leader. Her career spans nine major awards, among them the International Jazz Contest Monaco, the JTI Trier Jazz Award, and the Seven Virtual Jazz Club Contest. She has more than 26 albums on her own Selmabird Records label, and performs across Europe and beyond. She is also impressively trained in the technique of beatboxing saxophone, leads the SOFIA music business workshop for women musicians and on top of all that teaches online and face-to-face workshops for children and adults.

The album is like walking through a labrinth

In trio format, Labyrinth II arrives with a compact trio that creates far more power than its size suggests. Nicole Johanntgen performs on saxophone and vocals, joined by Victor Hege on tuba and Pius Baschnagel on drums. The album is described as ‘musical tension between poetry and trance scenarios full of wild melodies and mundane rhythms. All this with the feeling of walking through a labyrinth. They walk towards the center and back away. It is a game full of emotions.’

An ideal evening for jazz fans wanting a little extra

Clarence Jazz Club, founded in Malaga in 2013 and now based in Torremolinos, shows consistent, high-quality acts in its intimate, perfectly fitting club. Its line up regularly features international artists and regular jazz sessions, keeping it as one of the most respected venues for serious jazz. Johanntgen’s appearance fits effortlessly into that tradition.

Tickets can be reserved through the Clarence Jazz Club website. Early booking is recommended as international acts at this venue sell out quickly. For music, tour dates, and artist information, visit Nicole’s own website.

A perfect evening for anyone looking for some live jazz vibes mixed with something unique and different sprinkled on top.
