John Virgo Memorial Golf Day tickets are now on sale for Costa del Sol charity spectacular

Both golf and snooker fans can now book places for a special tribute event honouring one of the games’ most popular figures. The charity golf day will pay a heartfelt tribute to BBC snooker legend John Virgo, who passed away in February 2026 at the age of 79 and enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional snooker player and commentator.

He managed to get the 1979 UK Championship and reached the World Championship semi-finals that same year before becoming a familiar BBC voice for decades. Virgo also co-hosted the popular television show Big Break. His later years on the Costa del Sol included regular golf outings, which makes this memorial particularly fitting.

Event details set for July at Miraflores Golf Club

Organisers from the Lions Charity Group have scheduled the John Virgo Memorial Golf Day for Sunday, July 12, at Miraflores Golf Club in Mijas. Participants can enjoy welcome coffee and a bacon roll on arrival before competing in an individual Stableford competition and a team event. Prizes await the top three finishers in both categories, with additional contests for nearest the pin and longest drive.

For this good cause event golfers pay €95 per place, which includes all on-course elements. Non-golfers can join the post-golf festivities in the clubhouse for €25 to enjoy the buffet, raffle, auction and live entertainment. John’s wife Rosie and family members will present the prizes.
