A unique culinary celebration is due to take place in the beautiful Costa Blanca town of Muchamiel at the beginning of July: the eighth edition of the Muchamiel Tomato Fair, one of the most anticipated culinary celebrations in the area this summer, will take place on the evenings of July 3 and 4, transforming the town into a lively, aromatic place dedicated to the town’s most iconic agricultural staple, the Muchamiel tomato.
Celebrating an iconic and beloved local crop
Internationally renowned for its intense flavour, distinctive ribbed skin, and traditional importance, this local crop takes centre stage in a unique weekend loaded with community spirit and lively activities. Visitors will have the opportunity to chat directly with local producers, sample regional wines from local bodegas, and purchase artisan products, in particular handmade cheeses.
The programme: Tastings, workshops, and family activities
On Friday, July 3, the event will officially kick off at 7:30pm with the “Peque Chefs” workshop hosted by Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria, where the little ones in the municipality will learn to craft a tomato tartar. At 8:45pm, the Ruta del Vino de Alicante leads a special tasting, pairing regional wines with the star tomato and traditional “Coca de Mollitas” from Horno Artesano Pelailla.
The gourmet pairings will continue into the night with a second tasting session matching Muchamiel tomatoes with rich, artisan cheeses from the renowned local Quesería El de Sereix. Finally, at 10:30pm, this unique, exciting, and delicious evening will wrap up with an innovative cocktail workshop where adult participants can learn to craft a refreshing, ice-cold Muchamiel tomato Bloody Mary sorbet.
To round out the cultural experience, attendees are also invited to explore the stunning, nearby Gardens of Santa Elena, which are declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the municipality.
When and where to enjoy the Muchamiel Tomato Fair
The Muchamiel Tomato Fair will take place at the Plaça Sant Roc on July 3 and 4 from 7:30pm to 11:30pm each evening. Locals and visitors alike are invited not to miss out on this special culinary celebration, all dedicated to the town’s most iconic crop and one of the most delicious staples of the Costa Blanca.
Whether you are a dedicated foodie, a passionate supporter of local sustainable agriculture, or simply looking for a memorable summer evening out with your entire family, this annual fair offers the perfect blend of heritage and delicious gastronomy.
