Drunk school bus driver urinated and defecated on himself, caught nine times over limit

A swerving school bus, a soiled seat, and a blood alcohol level nine times the legal limit: a school bus driver has been apprehended and is under investigation by the Malaga Local Police after he was found driving drunk and reportedly defecated and urinated on himself during the journey.

Coworkers notice strange behaviour at the depot after man’s usual route

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, September 11, at around 5:20pm, after the man had completed his route through several schools in the area of Benalmadena and returned to the depot of the transport company in Malaga, where the buses park after their routes are completed.

There were no students on board, but the man’s coworkers quickly noted that the man was not behaving normally. According to witnesses, the man was making erratic turns, accelerating recklessly near the depot, and nearly crashed into other parked buses numerous times. He was instructed to stop the bus immediately.

Breathalyser test reveals extreme alcohol levels

Another worker eventually climbed into the bus to stop the driver and noted that, in addition to showing obvious signs of being drunk, the man had urinated and defecated on himself. The company alerted the Malaga Local Police, and a unit from the Carretera de Cadiz district was dispatched to the scene. Officers from the Accident Investigation and Reports Group performed a breathalyser test on the man, which he agreed to voluntarily, and confirmed he was not only intoxicated, but exceeded the legal blood alcohol level nine times over.

The breathalyser test showed 1.39 milligrams per litre of exhaled air, compared to the limit of 0.15 milligrams per litre, the legal limit for professional drivers of this kind who work with minors.

Though the driver was unfit to drive, there were no major incidents recorded during the journey. The officers confirmed that the bus driver’s routes were completed successfully at around 5:00pm on that Friday, and all the children were unharmed.

Man faces possible imprisonment, fines, and suspension of driver’s licence

To be specific, the driver is under investigation for a traffic safety offence and has been summoned to appear in a fast-track trial without detention. Penalties for this offence include imprisonment, fines, community service, and the suspension of the driver’s licence.
