Living in Spain does not mean leaving treasured memories or traditions behind. Sabinillas is again offering a place to honour those connections on Sunday, November 8, when the Royal British Legion’s Manilva branch holds its Remembrance Sunday service in Plaza de los Naranjos.

British expats, neighbours and friends can share a morning of reflection, followed by music and time together. For anyone remembering a loved one who served, it is an opportunity to pay their respects in the company of their local community.

Remembrance Sunday in Sabinillas: date, venue and timing

Royal British Legion Manilva’s poster advertises the service for Sunday November 8, 2026, at 11.45am in Plaza de los Naranjos, Sabinillas.

Anyone planning to attend should note a difference in the publicity: the accompanying Facebook announcement gives 11.30am. Checking directly with the branch before travelling, or arriving by the earlier time, would help avoid missing the opening.

Family history gives remembrance a deeply personal meaning. A parent’s service, a grandparent’s stories or memories of friends can make this annual gathering much more than a date in the calendar. Euro Weekly News explored those connections here in What Remembrance Day means to Brits abroad, reflecting on how life overseas can sit comfortably with traditions that still feel close to home.

Choir, buffet and entertainment after the service

Love to Sing Choir will perform after the ceremony, with further entertainment courtesy of Gary Fearnon.

A buffet will also be available at €8 per person, giving those attending a chance to stay for a meal and catch up with friends. Organisers ask anyone wanting the buffet to send a direct message to the Royal British Legion – Manilva Facebook page.

Such gatherings offer space for both quiet reflection and companionship: a moment to remember, followed by the comfort of familiar faces and conversation.

Local fundraising supports Manilva’s Poppy Appeal

Community generosity has already brought welcome support for the Manilva Poppy Appeal, with two local fundraising efforts raising a combined €436.80.

O Callaghans Bar’s quiz contributed €231.47. Royal British Legion Manilva thanked Keith and Rob from the bar, together with everyone who took part, for their continued support, and Carol Oughton received a separate thank-you after raising €205.33, with friends and customers of Pepe’s Bar also recognised for their generosity.

November’s service brings that same community spirit to Plaza de los Naranjos, offering residents a chance to honour the past and spend a meaningful morning together. For all the information, visit the Royal British Legion – Manilva Facebook page here.
